Our purpose
Why the Australian Cardiac Foundation exists, and what we set out to do.
Mission
To promote cardiac health for every Australian.
The Australian Cardiac Foundation exists to reduce the burden of heart disease in Australia — through public awareness, prevention, and support for people living with heart conditions and the families who care for them. Heart disease remains one of the country's leading causes of death, and much of it is preventable. We work to close that gap.
What we focus on
In our first year our work centres on two priorities:
- Awareness & prevention. Giving Australians clear, trustworthy information about heart-disease risk and how to lower it — knowing your numbers, recognising warning signs, and taking action early.
- Patient & family support. Practical resources and guidance for people diagnosed with heart conditions, and for the families supporting them.
Who we serve
We're building for the whole community, with particular attention to the people most affected by heart disease:
- The general Victorian public, expanding nationally over time.
- Heart patients and their families.
- Communities at higher risk of heart disease, including culturally and linguistically diverse and South Asian communities.
- General practitioners and health professionals who refer and care for patients.
How we work
We're a founder-led charity supported by volunteers and pro-bono clinical time from experienced doctors. Our governing board includes practising cardiologists and other health professionals, so our health information is grounded in current clinical practice. Health content on this site is reviewed by our clinical advisers before it is finalised.
